Basin Plan Review Begins
MRGC welcomes the release of the Basin Plan Review Discussion Paper and the launch of the formal engagement process by the MDBA.
This is a critical moment for the Basin and our communities. The Review process will ultimately shape how our rivers are managed for decades, with real impacts on our environment, our towns, our farms and our economy.
MRGC is seeking an improved Basin Plan from this review process. One that, in terms of the environment, is focused on outcomes not the volume of water entitlement owned by the Commonwealth.
MRGC has already started engaging with both State and Federal Governments, other Local Government stakeholders and is committed to fully engaging in the Review to represent our northern Victorian communities.
Local voices matter which is why we are urging communities, landholders, businesses and industry groups from across northern Victoria to read the Discussion Paper, to participate in the engagement process and importantly, to make a submission (open until 1 May).
This is a genuine opportunity to influence the next version of the Basin Plan. Our communities’ voices, lived experience and local knowledge need to be heard and be part of shaping what comes next.
